| Social Sciences and Social Work
We offer a range of exciting courses that will prepare you
for employment as, among other things, a qualified social worker or
youth and community worker. You will gain the knowledge and skills
needed for a range of careers including the police, probation office,
youth and community work, caring and residential home management.
We
are accredited by the National Youth Agency to provide study programmes
leading to youth and community work qualifications, and by the General
Social Care Council for the delivery of social work programmes.
The
Department of Applied Social Studies was awarded a 3a grading in the
2001 Research Assessment Exercise, which denotes national and some
international excellence.
Many staff members have a national and
international profile for excellence in teaching and research, and are
consulted by government departments, local authorities, professional
associations and voluntary organisations.
