Full-time UK/EU Undergraduate Students in 2008/09
If you are a full-time UK/EU student1
and plan to start a full-time degree course2, then you will not have to pay for your
university tuition fees until after you have graduated or left the University
and are earning a good salary, as a tuition fee loan will cover the costs.
You will need to make an application through your Local
Education Authority to the Student Loans Company (SLC) for the loan.
Tuition fees are then paid as a
loan, by the Student Loan Company, directly to the
University on your behalf.
The new tuition fee system for UK/EU students means that neither you or your parents have to pay the fees up front3 – it’s pay as you earn, not pay as you learn!
Although universities can vary the
amount they charge in fees, nearly all (including the University of Bedfordshire) will be
charging full-time UK/EU students, £3,145 per year for undergraduate honours
degrees (approx. 4000€ per year) and £4000 per year for postgraduate students (laboratory based courses £4300).

Funding and Support
Full-time UK/EU students starting in 2008/09
Cost is a major concern for most
potential students, but if you are going into higher education, there is a wide
selection of funding available to you from the Government, your place of
study or other sources.
Here at the University of Bedfordshire,
we try to make financing
your studies as simple and affordable as possible, by offering generous
bursaries, excellent scholarships and lots of support.
It’s important to know what funding is
available to you, what you are eligible for and whether or not you will be
required to pay it back once you have completed your studies.
As a
general rule, grants and bursaries do not have to be paid back, but loans do,
so it is important to check what you are applying for, so that you know what
you will owe when you leave higher education.
The financial help and support that
you will be eligible for during your time at university will depend on your
course, where you live while you are studying, and your individual circumstances. You could also be eligible for financial
support if you have children or adult dependants, or if you have a disability
or specific learning difficulties. |
